Fletcher Hills Little League’s Opening Day

On March 3, I attended Fletcher Hills Little League’s opening day ceremony. I was sorry the game was rained out, but it was still great to meet with coaches, players, and other volunteers.

Fletcher Hills Little League’s Opening Day

In this photo, I am surrounded by Fletcher Hills Little League (FHLL) former players. From left to right, we have El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells, Erik Weichelt, me, and Robert Weichelt. Erik and Robert’s family has produced FHLL players for three generations, and they dedicate so much time and energy to make sure the team has everything it needs. You can see that FHLL teaches good sportsmanship and also produces future leaders of our community. That’s one of the reasons we have a great community in East County. If you are involved with a little league in my district, please reach out to my District Representative, Jennifer, at Jennifer.Webber@sen.ca.gov or 619-596-3136 for Senate certificates of recognition for players, coaches, and parents that go above and beyond to help their team.

Woman of the Year

March is Women’s History Month during which we recognize and reflect on the incredible contributions that women have made to make our state and our country a better place. During Women's history month, as a legislature, we look within our own districts to highlight the women who are the pillars of our community and name one "Woman of the Year." It was my privilege to introduce the Woman of the Year in my district, Paula Jansen of Lakeside, to the State Senate on March 12.

Paula, a California native who comes from a long line of military veterans, served in the United States Navy for 21 years prior to the beginning of her tireless volunteer efforts across San Diego County and beyond. In 2016 and 2017, Paula was awarded the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for her efforts, eventually becoming the first female Post Commander of the Carter-Smith VFW Post 5867 in Lakeside.

She is also a lifetime member of Girl Scouts and always embodies the motto “Service First.” We are very fortunate to have her in our community. Congratulations, Paula!

San Diego Sockers All-Star Celebrity Halftime Game

The 14-time and 2017-18 Pacific Division Champion San Diego Sockers is our own indoor soccer team full of incredible athletes. I played soccer in high school and love the Sockers, so I was ecstatic to be invited to play at the San Diego Sockers All-Star Celebrity Halftime Game on March 3. Before the game, I was on Fox 5 to give a preview of the game. Thank you to Troy Hirsch, Sports Director for Fox 5 San Diego, for having me and Boris Pardo of the Sockers, the #1 goalkeeper in the league! If you missed it, watch the interview here: https://www.facebook.com/troyhirschfox5/videos/764143227121961/

San Diego Sockers All-Star Celebrity Halftime Game

This game happened during halftime at the San Diego Sockers home game against El Paso Coyotes, which the Sockers eventually won 10-3. From FIFA Women's World Cup champion and Olympic gold and silver medalist Shannon MacMillan, to many San Diego media gurus, to our own Assemblyman Brian Maienschein, the celebrity game was full of fantastic people of our community and I was honored to be part of the fun.

Military Officers Association of America Legislator of the Year

It was a tremendous honor to be selected by the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) as Legislator of the Year for 2017. I accepted the award at a ceremony for All-Veterans Capitol Day, which was Wednesday, March 14.

Military Officers Association of America Legislator of the Year

The MOAA has partnered with me to craft legislation that ensures California keeps its promise to veterans, military members, and their families, and I’m proud of what we have accomplished together throughout my eleven years in the state legislature. Last year, we worked together to pass Senate Bill 156 to help non-citizen veterans obtain the citizenship they earned through honorable service in our military.

Military Officers Association of America Legislator of the Year

It has been my privilege, throughout my time as an elected official, to sponsor legislation to support those who serve in our military. I will take this award as a reminder to never stop fighting for our military members and their families.

Team Anderson Highlight

Benjamin Franklin once claimed, “Lost time is never found again,” and I’ve always tried to maximize the time I’m given as a legislator because I want you to get the most out of me as your representative. In order for me to succeed in that mission, I’ve heavily relied on my schedulers, who have an enormous responsibility of handling our most precious resource: time. This job requires intelligence, the highest level of organizational skills, persistence, and an absolute can-do attitude. I am proud to share that my Scheduler, Heather Koszka, was one of the two presenters at the recent Senate scheduler training and shared her knowledge with schedulers that serve other State Senators.

Team Anderson Highlight

Heather often finds a way to solve problems that seem impossible to others. We are so proud of you, Heather. Your impressive ability has earned you a reputation among the bipartisan leadership of the legislature as the gold standard of schedulers. Go Team Anderson!
