State Capitol — State Senator Joel Anderson (R-Alpine) will present Senate resolutions to the two nurses that serve the Capitol community, Jennifer Hatfield and Christine Varner, on Monday during floor session.
In celebration of the National Nurses Week (May 6 – May 12), Anderson authored Senate resolutions for Hatfield and Varner, and included all 40 Senators in the state legislature as co-signers.
Both Hatfield and Varner have nearly 30 years of experience, and last year alone, they handled 4,338 clinic visits to their office in the Capitol building. They gave 150 flu shots, and there were 56 emergency calls. In addition to assisting visitors, the Capitol nurses also teach CPR classes, coordinate blood drives, and hold health and safety meetings for the Senate.
Anderson’s Capitol office is on the same floor as the nurse’s office, and he expressed his gratitude by stating, “Jennifer and Christine are incredibly intelligent and humble women who have gone above and beyond to take care of the well-being of the Capitol community and the public, and I am happy to celebrate National Nurses Week by honoring their service and passion.”
The resolution presentation will happen during the Senate floor session on Monday, May 7. The session begins at 2:00 P.M., and the public can watch the session in person in the gallery or at www.sen.ca.gov.
