Anderson's Resolution Condemning Chinese Government's Human Rights Violations Passes Judiciary Committee

Rally Opposing Organ Harvesting of Political Prisoners to be Held Thursday
Tuesday, August 29, 2017

On Thursday, August 31st, California State Senator Joel Anderson will be joined by Falun Dafa (also called Falun Gong) practitioners from Northern California and other legislators at a rally in support of SJR 10 (Anderson). SJR 10 passed the Senate Judiciary Committee today and next moves to the Senate floor.

SJR 10 expresses the Legislature’s support for Falun Dafa practitioners in China and urges the government of the People’s Republic of China to immediately end the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners.

Falun Dafa was founded in 1992 and teaches truth, compassion, and forbearance that strengthens the physical and mental health through meditation. This establishes a connection with the roots of traditional Chinese culture. Due to fears that Falun Dafa practitioners may have the strength to challenge the government’s power, Falun Dafa was banned by the Chinese government in 1999 and has been a subject of persecution. Compelling evidence exists that Falun Dafa prisoners of conscience have been the source of the dramatic increase of organs for transplantation in China.

Writing in favor of SJR 10, U.S. Southwestern Falun Dafa Association Vice President, Dr. Yingnian Wu, shared in a statement, “The Chinese communist regime’s persecution of tens of millions Falun Gong practitioners is the largest human rights violation in today’s world and has lasted for 18 years. The victim’s suffering is beyond description. The large scale killing of Falun Gong practitioners for their organs is an especially heinous crime against humanity. […]  We call on every state legislator to support SJR 10.”

Anderson said, “I am pleased the legislature has taken this first step to bring awareness to the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and condemn the Chinese government’s unconscionable acts against them. Freedom of religion, assembly, and speech are fundamental human rights, and California has a duty to call out such egregious government sanctioned violations and support non-violent government protesters.”
